The Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources Project (SMMRP) is a five-year programme financed by an IDA Credit of US$50 million equivalent, with co-financing from the Government of US$5 million equivalent. The project will be implemented from the financial year 2009/2010 to 2013/14.
SMMRP has been designed to help the Government to strengthen its capacity to manage the mineral sector, in particular to enhance principles of good governance and transparency in the sector; to spur local economic development through increased linkages between the mineral sector and local economy; reducing conflict; improve management of social and environmental issues related to mineral sector development; and to increase growth and competitiveness in the mineral sector.
